StartUp Founders: Start with Harvard’s CS50x Course (Introduction To Computer Science)

Feeling overwhelmed by the tech side of your startup? Don't let it hold you back - take Harvard's free CS50x course and gain a basic understanding of information technology.

I understand the struggles of non-technical founders who feel overwhelmed by the idea of learning technical skills. However, it’s imperative to level up and gain at least a basic understanding of your startup’s technology. The great news is that there’s a fantastic starting point for anyone with no experience in programming: Harvard’s free course CS50x Introduction to Computer Science.

As Tony Hsieh, former CEO of Zappos, said: “To be successful in today’s entrepreneurial landscape, you need to have a basic understanding of technology. It’s not enough to just have a great idea – you need to be able to execute on it using technology.” I couldn’t agree more. Having a basic understanding of the technical aspects of your business is crucial to making informed decisions that can positively impact your company.

The CS50x course is a great entry point to understand some of the core concepts of computer science. Watch it once, then watch it again, write notes, research the things that interest you, and learn the technical jargon that you didn’t quite understand. You will come out of it so much more powerful and stronger, ready to make an impact on your organization.

There are other great resources out there as well, such as Codecademy, Udemy, and Coursera, but the CS50x course is a phenomenal starting point. It may be overwhelming at first, but that’s not a bad thing.

So, non-technical founders, don’t let the fear of the unknown hold you back. Embrace the challenge, level up, and watch your business soar. Good luck on your journey to becoming a more technical founder!
